What? 

HackViolet, hosted by the Association for Women in Computing at Virginia Tech, is a 24-hour female-empowerment hackathon with a specific mission to encourage all individuals to learn about and become change agents for the gender gap in technology by innovating and inspiring with code. We welcome students of all genders, majors, and experience levels! This year's hackathon will be a fully in-person event featuring free swag pick up, food, and fun! Participants will be given opportunities to network with sponsors, participate in events and workshops, and win prizes.

Where? 

Our hackathon will be hosted on the Virgina Tech campus in Blacksburg, VA.

When? 

February 4-5, 2023.

Why?

Requirements

  1. Submit an initial project by Sunday 2/5 at 10:30 AM EST with your selected prize categories to be eligible for prizes. This can be a rough submission with random text, links, etc. You must submit your project to all the prize categories you'd like to be considered for.
  2. Have all final changes to your project submitted by Sunday 2/5 at 12:30 PM EST, including a 3 minute (maximum) demo video and link to a GitHub repo containing your code.

Note: These are all hard deadlines, so please plan in advance!

Best Ut Prosim hack, gokies! Prize is awarded to the team whose project best services and supports the Virginia Tech community, or any other community.

Best UI/UX Hack

Best UI/UX hack wins their team mechanical keyboards and mice, with one keyboard and one computer mouse per team member.

Best Eco-Friendly Hack

Most eco-friendly, one pair of Airpods Pros 2 per team member.

Best Hack to Support Women

These are prizes awarded to the two teams whose projects creatively tackle issues that women face, aids female-empowerment, combats the gender gap in tech, etc.

Best Web Hack Using Flask

Peraton-sponsored! Peraton will provide each team member with Peraton branded backpacks, swag and $100 Amazon gift cards.

Best Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Hack

Most Innovative Hack

This prize is awarded to the team whose project exemplifies Bloomberg's value of Innovation. Think bigger, see the world differently, and constantly challenge the status quo.

Winning team will be awarded Nintendo Switches, one per team member.

Best Design Hack

Winner for RSM's Best Design Hack will be awarded a Wifi Pineapple by Hak5, per participant.

This prize is awarded to the team that shows the most interesting implementation of a database, either through its unique design of its usefulness in the application. This prize is open to all coding languages!

Best Digital Forensics Hack

To the winning team, we will be giving away $100 in Amazon egift cards and Cipher Tech Swag bags (including a Yeti tumbler!) to members of the team of up to 4, who design the best application that pertains in some way to digital forensics.
